"A bad day with acne is a bad day full stop. I’m forever thinking about it. Pretty much at least half of my day is focused around either doing something about my skin, researching about my skin or thinking and being upset about my skin."

Set Expectations

GUIDE YOUR PATIENT’S EXPECTATIONS, FROM THE VERY BEGINNING

It is important that you support your patient’s treatment success by giving them sufficient
knowledge about the therapeutic process, for example9

  • Duration of treatment
  • The maximum achievable result
  • The expected onset of the effect
  • Expected adverse events

We also recommend that you offer them the following guidance:1,10

If your patient’s skin peels or becomes dry, they can try

  • Using an oil and fragrance-free hypoallergenic moisturiser
  • Using Duac less often, or stopping for one or two days before starting again

It is important that the prescribed pack size is relative to the extent of acne in order to
optimise application and the treatment response.

"The negative social and psychological impact of acne can have a profound effect on the patient. Early and effective treatment for these patients is important to control inflammation, the appearance of lesions and to prevent scarring. Further, compliance plays a crucial role in meeting treatment objectives and therefore treatment regimens should be customized to optimise treatment, increase adherence and manage expectations."
