Pneumonia 1

  • Pneumonia of different etiologies is a leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality globally.
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae continues to be the most common cause of bacterial pneumonia in children.
  • In Canada, although immunization has decreased the incidence of bacterial pneumonia in vaccinated children, pneumonia remains common in healthy children.
