What steps can be taken to prevent acute otitis media (AOM)?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following steps to prevent AOM: 12

  • Covering mouth when sneezing or coughing
  • Hand hygiene
  • Smoke-free environment
  • Breastfeeding
  • Keeping up to date with vaccination schedules
