Prof David Playford is an academic clinical cardiologist, with subspecialty expertise in echocardiography and cardiac CT, having founded a specialist cardiology practice, run a subspecialist echo laboratory and an echo core lab, and set up and directed an advanced echo fellowship program, and a specialist Cardiac CT service. His clinical practice is at Advara Heart Care where his interests are Breathlessness, Cardiovascular Risk Assessment, Heart Failure, Valvular Heart Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension and Cardio-Oncology.

As the Professor of Cardiology at The University of Notre Dame, Fremantle, he runs the undergraduate cardiovascular teaching program and has been awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Prof Playford is known internationally for his “big data” research work into the fundamental importance of early identification of cardiovascular disease. As the founder and chief investigator of the National Echo Database Australia, he has been instrumental in developing a major research program and a collaboration network involving many eminent Australian and International research academics. His work has resulted in many high-impact publications which are changing paradigms in recognition and management of heart disease, and the design of future clinical trials. In addition, he is the Chief Medical Advisor to an ASX-listed Cardiology Artificial Intelligence company that enhances human diagnosis of conditions such as aortic stenosis and heart failure.

Dr Ronald Grossman
MD FRCPC FACP FCCP

Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto and previous Chief of Medicine, CreditValley Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

He has published over 90 articles in a wide number of medical journals including New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Respiratory Critical Care Medicine, American Journal of Medicine and Chest. His major research and teaching interests are in respiratory tract infections. He has participated in the creation of Canadian and American guidelines for the management of community-acquired pneumonia, Canadian guidelines for the management of hospital-acquired pneumonia and Canadian and international guidelines for the management of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive lung disease.

He previously served as the chairman of the National Information Program on Antibiotics (NIPA), a coalition of many medical and public health societies. This coalition was established to encourage the appropriate use of antibiotics among physicians and patients.

He recently was awarded the Murray Kornfeld Memorial Founder’s Lectureship by the American College of Chest Physicians.

Dr Lee Tau Hong
Infectious Disease Physician, Infectious Diseases Care

Dr Lee Tau Hong, an accredited infectious disease physician, graduated from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians in the UK. His clinical interests include serious community and hospital infectious diseases; antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial stewardship; HIV medicine; tropical infectious diseases and traveller's health.

Prior to joining Infectious Diseases Care, he was Senior Consultant in the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Head of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programme at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Also, he was the Head of Antimicrobial Resistance Coordinating Office in National Centre of Infectious Diseases. He chaired the National Antimicrobial Resistance Control Committee, MOH from 2022 to 2023. Dr Lee was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and a faculty member of the NHG Infectious Disease Senior Residency Programme.

He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore since 2016 and is now the Chairperson of the Chapter of Infectious Disease Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Prof See Kay Choong
Senior Consultant Respiratory Physician and Intensivist, National University Hospital Singapore

Adj Assoc Prof Kay Choong See is currently a Senior Consultant Respiratory Physician and Intensivist at the National University Hospital, Singapore.

He is also the Associate Designated Institutional Official for the National University Health System Residency Program.

Adj Assoc Prof See completed Advanced Specialty Training in both Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine in Singapore, a Master of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, and a Master of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University. He is competent in bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, ultrasound-guided pleural procedures and thoracoscopy (pleuroscopy). His special interests include public health, medical education, and healthcare quality improvement.

Senior Partner, The Edinburgh Clinic, Singapore

Prof Tan Tze Lee graduated MBChB(Edin) from the University of Edinburgh in 1987, and is senior partner at The Edinburgh Clinic, Singapore. He is Adjunct Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine for Family Medicine, and the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School for Family Medicine and Continuing Care. He is a council member of the College of Family Physicians, Singapore, council member of the Singapore Medical Council, and Vice President of the COPD Association, Singapore. He has clinical and research interests in respiratory health, as is equally passionate about adult medical education.

WONCA APR Conference 2024

The College of Family Physicians Singapore will host the 2024 WONCA APR Conference on 21-24 August at Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore.
